Bedfordview at a glance

Bedfordview is a beautiful suburb in western Ekurhuleni. It has no traffic congestion and is considered a safe and pleasant place to live and work, despite its location overlooking the bustling Sandton municipality.

Bedfordview is a desirable location for business people coming into the city for a short time because it is one of Johannesburg's closest suburbs to the O.R. Tambo International Airport.

Commercial properties for rent and sale in Bedfordview are in great demand due to the area's proximity to various industrial and business districts. Many investors like to locate their headquarters in a wealthy area; thus it appeals to them.

From a residential standpoint, the beautiful location is home to numerous good schools, restaurants, and a variety of exciting activities for the entire family.

Elandsfontein Farmlands was the original name given to the area where Bedfordview now stands. The Witwatersrand Gold Reef had a major impact on the area back in the day. Elandsfontein was bought for the mineral rights, then divided into smaller farms and smallholdings, many of which were settled by retired miners. The entire area became known as Geldenhuis Estates Smallholdings.

A naming competition was held to give the place its significant name. The competition was won by a local lass who suggested that the Bedford Farm had a lovely view.

The smallholding had grown into a small community by 1932. On 26 July 1928, the first Bedfordview Scout Troop, as well as a government school and a post office, opened their doors.
